Session: Local Branding, A Detroit Story

Van Nguyen (pronounced Von Winn) joined Schoolcraft College as their Executive Director of Marketing and Communications in 2018 charged with developing marketing and communications strategies that promote the college’s mission and increase community awareness.

Before joining Schoolcraft College, Van was the Director of Trustee Development overseeing 132 Beaumont Health Trustees in Southeast Michigan. She helped advanced the inaugural group to become health ambassadors in their respective communities.

Prior to 2017, she was executive director of the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce (APACC) in Livonia where she launched economic advancement programs in the minority business community.

Van has more than 14 years of experience in the digital marketing industry; spearheading General Motor’s first “social command center” and also worked as an account director at Ogilvy & Mather where she managed a social marketing campaign for Ford Motor Company

Van is active in the local community serving as an advisory board member for Shakespeare in Detroit and Southeastern Salvation Army – Adult Rehabilitation Center and board member and secretary at Gleaners Community Food Bank.

She has been awarded with Corp! Magazine Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award, Crain's 40 Under 40 Class of 2015, Women's Leadership in Action Award and featured in the 6th Edition of DRIVEN Magazine for Diversity and Inclusion in the automotive industry for her efforts at APACC.

Van received her Bachelors in Sociology from Baylor University and her Masters in Humanities from University of Texas at Dallas.
